Mishawaka football player charged with murder, feticide in death of Breana Rouhselang

Police believe a high school footballer in IN stabbed a cheerleader pregnant with his baby to death because it was too late for her to get an abortion.

In a court filing supporting the charges, prosecutors said Trejo told police he stabbed Ms Rouhselang during a fight over her pregnancy and put her body in a restaurant dumpster in their hometown of Mishawaka, about 130 kilometres east of Chicago.

Trejo, 16, told police that he knew Breana Rouhselang, 17, was pregnant and he was "supposed to be the father of the baby", but neither he nor Rouhselang wanted to have the baby, a probable cause affidavit said.

According to the affidavit, Trejo told police Breana had waited too long to tell him that she was pregnant so an abortion was no longer possible.

Rouhselang's mother became anxious when her daughter didn't arrive home around 1 am on Sunday (December 9), and she went to Trejo's home to ask about her whereabouts.

So he "took action", Trejo allegedly said. Aaron Trejo quietly said, "Yes".

Pupils took part in a silent vigil yesterday to honour their classmate, who was also a softball coach and football team manager at the school. Officers found more blood and soon found Rouhselang's body in a nearby dumpster in back of a restaurant near the house, with a plastic trash bag over her head and upper body. He was arrested Sunday, scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday and had no attorney on record. Her family reported her missing just hours before her body was discovered.

Alex Arendt of the St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit said Trejo is in custody at the St. Joseph County Jail and is being held without bond.

Trejo told investigators he threw Rouhselang's cell phone and the knife into the river as far as he could throw it before returning home.
