Can Trump Build the Wall Without Approval from Congress?

He knows that a border wall is essential to our national security, and he's not going to give up on that urgent priority in the interest of political expediency.

"What they are just beginning to realise", Trump tweeted about opposition Democrats, "is that I will not sign any of their legislation, including infrastructure, unless it has flawless Border Security". Trump had signaled on Wednesday that he would sign the deal.

Rank-and-file House Republicans left a closed-door meeting with their leaders giving conflicting views on whether Trump would sign into law the bill that would keep about 25 per cent of federal programs operating beyond midnight on Friday when existing money expires.

After the Senate passed a stopgap spending bill that would avert a partial government shutdown this weekend - though one that does not include Trump's requirement of wall funding - Trump said Thursday that the border must be physically secure. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said Wednesday of the Senate's bipartisan vote on that bill. "Not good!" Trump Tweeted.

No one has been able to convince the President that the Republican-led House and Republican-led Senate will not sign-off on his border wall.

The measure doesn't include the money Trump has demanded for his long-promised "big, beautiful" border wall with Mexico.

The president's conservative backers insist that Trump should not back down from his demand for $5 billion from Congress.

Just days before a possible government shutdown, President Donald Trump continues to urge Democrats to back the funding for the U.S. -Mexico border wall. Many of his fellow Republicans who lost re-election in November are already done with Washington and are moving their stuff back to their home states, leaving House Leadership unsure exactly how many members will be around to vote. He had promised to begin working on an "impenetrable physical wall" along the southern border on his first day in office, but little headway has been made.

Can Trump Build the Wall Without Approval from Congress?

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway says President Donald Trump may consider a short-term funding deal to keep the government open.

It would be a stretch to say the fencing Schumer supported in 2013 fits the same description as Trump's "impenetrable, physical, tall, power, attractive southern border wall", with "precasts going up probably 35 to 40 feet in the air".

The package included more than $46 billion for border security. "The President is continuing to weigh his options", administration spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement. While she expressed openness to additional funds for issues like disaster aid, she said wall funding would be a dealbreaker for Democrats.

Failure to do so would trigger partial government shutdowns on Saturday.

Schumer and Pelosi are hoping they can block wall funding and morph candidate Trump's pledge into President Trump's broken promise, and ride it to victory in 2020. "The American people's patience is running out".

Trump's desire for border wall funding leaves the path forward for Congress unclear.

Reuters reported Wednesday that Congress managed to settle on a short-term "stop-gap" measure that would fund most government agencies through early February, when Congress is back in session full-time and not on a holiday deadline. And some moderate GOP members from swing districts who blame their November losses on Trump's anti-immigration attacks plan to vote with Democrats on the bill.

On "Fox & Friends", Trump's favorite and most-tweeted-about morning show, conservative blogger Michelle Malkin described his latest move as a "cave" and a "blink".
