Alien invasion? New Yorkers stunned as sky turns blue

In this image taken from video, the night sky is illuminated in a bright, blue color after an explosion in the Queens borough of New York, Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018.

While many thought it was the same light, that emanates from a UFO hence time for an alien invasion, others believed it was time for a divine intervention, Judgment Day perhaps?

No injuries have been reported. InsideEdition.com's Lisa Voyticki reports.

One Astoria resident and her boyfriend immediately hopped in their vehicle with their cats in tow after witnessing Thursday night's supernatural glow radiating from the Con Edison substation at 20th Avenue and 32nd Street.

"Small, blue explosion near LaGuardia has knocked out power at the airport and surrounding area, ' said user Mason Mccoy". Some power outages were being reported in the wake of the explosion, which was visible across much of the city.

The fault affected some subway service and even led to flight delays at LaGuardia. The light went from white to yellow to an incandescent blue - and with a level of clouds hanging above the New York City skyline, the effect was striking.

The issue caused a transmission dip in the area, and Con Edison crews responded with the Fire Department of New York, Con Edison said.

"The fire is under control, will update as more info becomes available", it said.

Around 11 p.m., the airport tweeted power was restored in the temrinals with outgoing and incoming flights resuming.

'The transformer explosion in Astoria was. right outside my window, ' he said.

"I'm tight cause I KNOW someone just got superpowers from that blue light".

Consolidated Edison - also known simply as Con Ed - said it is still investigating the root cause of the incident.

"*Not* aliens. Blown transformer at Queens Con-Ed facility", Eric Phillips, the mayor's press secretary, tweeted, "Scattered power outages, including LGA".
