Jermain Defoe set to sign for Rangers from Bournemouth

"We see there are a few problems we have in our squad, for my kind of football, for my philosophy in a few positions, I need more speed, more running quality, therefore we will need also new players".

Jermain Defoe is set to join Rangers on an 18-month loan and Shanley confirms a deal to bring Steven Davis, who is now the Southampton club captain, back to the club is still in the pipeline.

The 36-year-old striker joined Bournemouth from Sunderland on a free transfer in 2017. "They could push Celtic all the way with those two in the team".

Redknapp knows Defoe well having signed him as a 15-year-old for West Ham, then twice more in his career for Portsmouth and Tottenham Hotspur. And still very fit.

"He scored some massive goals for us previous year, I don't think anyone should forget that".

The 2016 signing from Wolverhampton Wanderers has made close to 100 appearances for the club, but he now has strong competition in the form of Tom Cairney, Jean Michael Seri, Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Stefan Johansen.

However, Redknapp believes Defoe would thrive in Glasgow.

"But we understand they were undergoing medicals today and Rangers are looking to tie them down". It's been hard for him, with [Callum] Wilson and [Joshua] King who play up front they've both been outstanding so he hasn't got the games.

"The manager has got it on a playing field where it is competitive and what a hell of a result against Celtic in the last game".

Luckily for him, the SFA are an organisation inept at doing their jobs and BACKED their referee over claims he seen all three incidents but felt they didn't require any follow-up or punishment.
