Actor Kevin Spacey pleads not guilty to sex assault charge

Oscar victor Kevin Spacey arrived in a MA courtroom Monday amid a chaotic scene of reporters as he faced a charge of indecent assault stemming from the alleged groping of a teenage boy.

Spacey leaves Nantucket District Court following his arraignment.

Spacey's lawyer has questioned the evidence against him.

The erstwhile "House of Cards" star waived his next court appearance, scheduled for March 4.

Spacey's request was denied by the judge and so he did appear in person to enter his plea. Spacey's lawyers say some of the data is "likely exculpatory".

Looking exhausted, Spacey agreed not to have contact with his alleged victim and nodded his head slightly when he was ordered to stand before the judge.

Spacey is accused of sexually assaulting the teenage son of former Boston WCVB-TV news anchor Heather Unruh at a Nantucket bar in July 2016.

The 18-year-old said he told the actor he was a 23-year-old college student.

"My client is a determined and encouraging voice for those victims not yet ready to report being sexually assaulted", attorney Mitchell Garabedian said in an email.

The civil attorney for the accuser said in a statement ahead of the hearing that his client is "leading by example".

Because of intense public interest in the case, a crowd packed into the small courtroom to see Spacey. She said her son fled the restaurant when Spacey went to the bathroom.

"Coming out stories should not be used to deflect from allegations of sexual assault", Sarah Kate Ellis, president and chief executive officer of GLAAD tweeted at the time. If convicted, Spacey will reportedly be imprisoned for up to five years.

The alleged victim is the son of former television news presenter Heather Unruh, who spoke publicly about the incident previous year.

First, actor Anthony Rapp accused Spacey of making a sexual advance toward him in 1986 when he was 14 years old and Spacey was 26, Rapp told BuzzFeed News.

Spacey has also faced other allegations. Prosecutors declined to file charges over a 1992 allegation because the statute of limitations had expired.

Later that day, the actor released video in which he appeared as his House of Cards character Frank Underwood.

Kevin Spacey arrives at Nantucket District Court for his arraignment.

"I can promise you this", Spacey said, "If I didn't pay the price for the things we both know I did do, I'm certainly not going to pay the price for the things I didn't do".
