Google Assistant nears 1 billion installs as usage quadruples

The company has now sold more than 100 million Alexa devices around the world, this number was revealed to The Verge by Amazon's SVP of devices and service Dave Limp.

Samsung Electronics' decision to include other AI platforms that rival Samsung's Bixby was interpreted as the company's acknowledgement of the limits faced by Bixby's English version in its global expansion, as it was being outperformed by Google Assistant and Alexa. At the moment it seems that Bixby will definitely be able to access Google Maps, Google Play, YouTube, and Gmail at least for starters.

However, Android phones will still make up the majority of Google Assistant's install base.

According to Engadget, Samsung TV owners will be able to power on/off their sets, change channels, turn the volume up/down, and even swap inputs by talking to their smart device.

Since no other Sonos speakers were designed with voice commands in mind, the speakers themselves won't technically work as Google Assistant devices. You can only use Siri to control Apple Music.

Yet, this is as yet an imperative affirmation from Samsung that millions of individuals have just put resources into the ecosystems from Amazon or Google - with much additionally going ahead over the Christmas season these last few weeks.

The now two-year-old assistant was first announced in May of 2016, a clear response to Amazon's Alexa which was released in 2014. Thus, the giant Internet company plans to double the use of Google Assistant which settled around 500 million users as of May 2018. This feature will be very useful in many settings as it should work with any Assistant-enabled speaker or display.

The assistant which is compatible with 10,000 smart home devices, ranging more than 1,600 brands not only reached a wider audience, but Google also added a number of features to make it smarter.
