Windows 10 October 2018 Update Starts Automatically Rolling Out in January 2019

Microsoft acknowledged back in 2017 that it would no longer be developing Windows Phone.

Microsoft has updated its FAQ page regarding the end of support date for Windows 10 Mobile, which has been known for sometime now as December 10, 2019. Now reports states that Microsoft is preparing to end support for the Windows 10 Mobile by the end of this year.

Support may end earlier than that for certain handsets running Windows 10 Mobile.

As per observation by Thurrott, Microsoft has suggested to all existing users of Windows 10 Mobile that they should now opt for "other platforms", which basically means Android or iOS. After Microsoft announced that support is coming to an end, Windows 10 Mobile users had to give up on their phones. The date was revealed in a support document from Microsoft that was updated this week.

According to both CNBC and Thurrott, Microsoft has basically killed Windows 10 Mobile. The company is officially recommending its Windows 10 Mobile users to move to Android and iOS.

Microsoft said that after the end of support deadline, some important features may stop working. A slight change to the Win 10 phone support page was first detected by Thurrott, a website that also covers Microsoft. Alongside the company is also building apps that would work across foldable as well as dual screen devices. Now the clients of Windows 10 devices have to make a smart selection among Android or iOS supported cell phones.

Though it mentioned that third parties or paid support programs may provide ongoing support, but Microsoft support itself won't publicly provide updates or patches for Windows 10 Mobile.

Even though Windows Phone and Windows Mobile were responsible for some neat styles sporting heavy contrast and some cheap devices, it failed to gain traction, partly because app developers just didn't make the jump. It has yet to stick to a release cycle and gone through several names changs, but its biggest problem yet has been the straight-up lie in the so-called Windows 10 October 2018 Update's name. "One thing that I feel like at Microsoft we made a bunch of mistakes by just saying let's just enter every category, just because we're a software company", ZDNet quotes Nadella as saying. And after a few years ago Microsoft captures Nokia's mobile phone unit as they can make and develop Window phone privately.
