Roger Stone Indictment Describes a Cover-Up of a Nonexistent Crime

The veteran Republican strategist's appearance Sunday on ABC's "This Week" is the latest of several media interviews he's given since his arrest Friday on criminal charges that include obstruction of an official proceeding, false statements and witness tampering.

It was the first move in months by the special prosecutor probing Russian collusion in the 2016 USA election and whether Trump and his people tried to obstruct justice.

Early this morning, a group of 29 heavily armed Federal Bureau of Investigation officers carried out a pre-dawn raid to apprehend the foppish 66-year-old Republican political consultant Roger Stone at the request of special counsel Robert Mueller.

Roger Stone, a longtime Republican operative and adviser to the campaign of President Donald Trump, called his indictment in the special counsel's investigation "thin" but didn't rule out cooperating if asked.

"I did just connect the dots and figure it out on my own", Corsi said on CNN's State of the Union. He was released on a $250,000 bond later Friday morning and said he will plead not guilty when he is formally arraigned.

For his part, Stone, viewing Trump as a larger-than-life figure "who's got it all" - charisma, wealth, standing - pressed Trump to run for president.

His staff also linked to a fundraising page for people to help Stone pay his hefty legal fees. "Nowhere in the Presidential Daily Diaries from 1972 to 1974 does the name "Roger Stone" appear".

U.S. prosecutors pointed to two other individuals, including an unnamed political commentator with an online publication who regularly spoke with Trump throughout the campaign, a description that matches Jerome Corsi.

Some political analysts say the emails, which highlighted disputes among Democrats, contributed to Trump's stunning defeat of election rival Hillary Clinton. It also doesn't say that Stone had any special knowledge of WikiLeaks' plans.

He also pledged his support for Trump - one of his "oldest friends" - saying, "I have made it clear that I will not testify against the president because I would have to bear false witness against him".

He had started his post writing: 'CBS reports that in the Roger Stone indictment, data was 'released during the 2016 Election to damage Hillary Clinton.' Oh really!

In September 2017, he appeared before the House Intelligence Committee, testifying that he had no direct contact with WikiLeaks during the campaign, did not direct anyone to contact WikiLeaks, and that he did not discuss his conversations with an intermediary to WikiLeaks with the Trump campaign.

On Twitter, Mr. Trump repeated his claim that the investigation is a "witch hunt".

The high-ranking official is Steve Bannon, Trump's former campaign chief, according to a person familiar with the matter.

It says the Trump campaign directed a senior campaign official to contact Stone after the WikiLeaks release of hacked emails from the Democratic National Committee and other groups on July 22, 2016. The almost two-year-old probe has exposed multiple contacts between Trump associates and Russian Federation during the campaign and transition period and revealed efforts by several to hide those communications.

Third Graders For Kennedy: Though he now sports a tattoo of Richard Nixon on his back, in 1960 eight-year-old Roger Stone supported John F. Kennedy for president.

"You know, that's a question I have to determine after my attorneys have some discussion", Stone replied.

Mr Stone published a book, The Making of the President 2016, after helping Mr Trump to power.

Stone's problem, like Michael Flynn's, is not what he did but what he said about what he did.
