Speaker Pelosi: No wall money in US border deal talks

"I think she's very bad for our country", Trump said in an interview with CBS, referring to the recent standoff over his demand for a border wall that resulted in a 35-day partial government shutdown. Trump said at a White House event that he might declare such an emergency because it did not appear that Democrats in Congress were moving toward a deal that would provide the money he wants to help fund the wall, which Democrats broadly oppose. "But you'll hear the State of the Union and you'll hear what happens right after the State of the Union, okay?"

"Well, we have very strong legal standing", Trump told reporters hours before he is slated to make his first visit to his South Florida resort since Thanksgiving weekend.

But the US leader said, "It's national emergency, it's other things and you know there have been plenty national emergencies called".

On Jan. 31, Nancy Pelosi said that Democrats will not include any money for a border wall in their proposed legislation.

"We will be looking at a national emergency because I don't think anything's going to happen".

Pelosi has, after all, offered the president more than $1bn for border security: just not for building a wall. Rick Scott, R-Fla. "If the Democrats won't negotiate with him because their judgment is clouded by their pure hatred of him, then the president needs to move forward".

"Over the next 21 days, I expect that both Democrats and Republicans will operate in good faith". Ironically, the shutdown itself ended up costing the government an estimated $11 billion dollars, which is almost twice the $5.7 billion Trump wanted allocated for a wall in the first place.

In defending the wall, Trump recited his usual list of talking points, claiming drugs are "pouring in" and that there are "people dying all over the country because of people like Nancy Pelosi who don't want to give proper border security for political reasons". The President said his lawyers have been reassured by the departing Deputy-Attorney General Rod Rosenstein that he was not a target. "It's like in a business, we have money on hand, and we're building, I would say we have a hundred and fifteen miles of wall, maybe a little bit more than that very shortly". "It's being built. Some of it has already been completed".

"More troops being sent to the Southern Border to stop the attempted Invasion of Illegals, through large Caravans", Trump tweeted. "And this really is an invasion of our country by human traffickers".
