NFL reveals Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2019

Edwards was the head coach of the Jets during Mawae's tenure with the team.

The class of 2019 will have eight inductees: Tight end Tony Gonzalez, cornerback Champ Bailey and safety Ed Reed, all in their first year of eligibility, join Mawae, cornerback Ty Law, safety Johnny Robinson, Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen and former scout and executive Gil Brandt.

In a 17-year career that ended with the 2013 season, Gonzalez caught 1,325 passes, the second most in National Football League history, for 111 touchdowns.

Gonzalez was traded to the Atlanta Falcons in 2009 after spending twelve seasons in Kansas City. He played in 203 regular-season games and made 53 interceptions, returning seven for touchdowns.

The Hall of Fame Class of 2019 will officially be enshrined on August 3 in Canton, Ohio.

The contributor nominees, Broncos owner Pat Bowlen and Cowboys and National Football League executive Gil Brandt, each made it, as did senior Johnny Robinson, the defensive back who helped the Chiefs win Super Bowl 4. Law was a two-time All Pro and made the Pro Bowl five times.

Still, he made three All-Pro teams, 12 Pro Bowls and a none-too-shabby 52 interceptions. He played 12 seasons for the Texans in the Chiefs. Washington shipped Bailey out despite him making the Pro Bowl four times in five years with the Redskins and registering 18 interceptions in that stretch.

A seven-time first-team All-Pro and an eight-time Pro Bowler, Mawae was an elite blocker for the majority of his career. Just one week earlier, he thought about the possibility of the Chiefs being in town for the Super Bowl before they fell in overtime to the New England Patriots in the AFC title game.

The board of selectors met for 7½ hours Saturday ahead of Super Bowl LIII. His 15,610 total yards from scrimmage ranks 11th all-time among running backs, and is more than Hall of Fame backs Eric Dickerson, Jerome Bettis and Jim Brown.

A pioneer of scouting, Brandt is best known for his time as vice president of player personnel with the Cowboys, helping form a dynasty in the 1970s. In his career with the Chiefs, Robinson won four division titles, three AFL championships and started in two Super Bowls.
