Venezuelan military blocks humanitarian aid from entering the country, Colombian officials say

One official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the aid would be prepositioned at the main Colombian-Venezuelan border crossing at Cucuta.

USA officials say the United States sent food and medicine to Colombia's border with Venezuela, though it is still unclear how the aid will get through over the objections of President Nicolas Maduro, who has blocked shipments in the past.

Bulgaria has joined the majority of European Union countries in recognising Juan Guaidó as interim President of Venezuela.

Shipments aree also coming from Venezuelan companies overseas, Colombia, Canada and Germany. The Trump administration has pledged $20 million in aid and Canada has promised another $53 million. "With ministers Néstor Ruiz Reverol and Aristóbulo Istúriz [minister of Education and vice president for social affairs], we said goodbye to the crew".

Hundreds of protesters marched down two main Buenos Aires avenues to the US embassy on Tuesday in a show of support for embattled Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and to oppose USA involvement in that country. "You want to humiliate Venezuela, and I will not let our people be humiliated", he said on Monday.

Trudeau also urged the worldwide community to help Guaido restore democracy and help the economy in Venezuela.

Mexico and Uruguay have not recognized Guaido, the head of the National Assembly who declared himself acting president on January 23 in place of Maduro.

In a declaration, the group urged the Venezuelan military to support Guaidó.

"Donald Trump's threats violate the United Nations charter, which prohibits the threat of the use of force or the use of force against any country", said Maduro.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn - a long-standing admirer of Nicholas Maduro's socialist predecessor Hugo Chavez - has strongly condemned outside interference in Venezuela "whether from the USA or anywhere else".

His hardline position is at odds with poverty-stricken Venezuelans when have been hit hardest by the country's economic collapse.

European Union member states had indicated that if no new elections are announced, they would take action within the next few days, including on the issue of recognition of the country's leadership in accordance with Article 233 of the Venezuelan constitution.

Maduro blames Washington and other Western nations for sabotaging Venezuela's economy, including through sanctions.

Canada and its Latin American allies in the Lima Group, along with the United States, have been pushing for Maduro's departure.

Pompeo says Venezuela's military has barricaded the bridge, blocking aid under orders from Maduro.

"The path to sanctions relief for PdVSA is through the expeditious transfer of control to the Interim President or a subsequent, democratically elected government", Secretary of the Treasury Steven T. Mnuchin said.
