USA military planes carry 180 tons of aid for Venezuelans

Venezuela's Supreme Tribunal of Justice, the country's Supreme Court, ordered legal action against individuals that opposition leader Juan Guaido announced as the new board members for PDVSA and its US unit, Citgo.

The announcement comes on the heels of a visit by Colombian President Ivan Duque to the United States.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said Trump will reiterate his "strong support" for Guaido and make clear that Venezuela's "current path toward democracy is irreversible".

As part of US humanitarian aid to Venezuela, Rubio is visiting the area where the medical supplies, medicine and food aid is stored before it it expected to be taken across the border on February 23. "Allow the humanitarian aid'".

Mr Maduro, who denies the existence of a humanitarian crisis, dismisses the opposition moves as a "political show" and a cover for a USA invasion.

Guaido, who argued Maduro's 2018 re-election was a sham and invoked constitutional provisions to declare himself the country's leader last month, has said aid will enter Venezuela on February 23.

The 250 tons of emergency supplies will begin arriving Saturday to the border city of Cucuta, where tons of boxes of emergency supplies stamped with the USA flag are already warehoused waiting for delivery into Venezuela.

Vassily Nebenzia told reporters at United Nations headquarters in NY on Thursday that this "would be a very bad development".

The United States already has pre-positioned some relief supplies in Colombia and is coordinating with Guaido to mobilize aid for Venezuelans, a State Department spokeswoman said. He calls it a provocation that may "lead to something much worse than that".

Maduro is inviting a USA special envoy to come to Venezuela after revealing during the interview that his foreign minister recently held secret meetings with the US official in NY. That border city, swollen by a flood of migrants from Venezuela, is a collection point for aid that's supposed to be distributed by supporters of Juan Guaido, the congressional leader who is recognized by the US and many other nations as Venezuela's legitimate president.

"He would rather see his people starve than give them aid, than help them", Trump said.

Coromoto Crespo, 58, said he volunteered because of the urgent need for supplies.

Maduro says he holds out hope of a meeting to resolve a crisis over America's recognition of opponent Juan Guaido as Venezuela's rightful leader.

Rubio, who has been an influential voice in advocating U.S measures against Maduro, noted that about 50 nations have declared Guaido the constitutional president of Venezuela, based on arguments that Maduro's re-election previous year was fraudulent, and that other government-stacked institutions such as the supreme court have no legal authority.

Trump and first lady Melania Trump addressed Venezuelans at Florida International University in Miami and discussed the growing crisis in the South American country.

The concert will last two days and include "the participation of numerous national and global artists in support of Venezuelan democracy", the report said.
