Indian commander says Pakistan spy agency involved in Kashmir bombing

The confrontation piled more pressure on the Indian government, which has blamed Pakistan for last Thursday's suicide attack on a paramilitary convoy that killed at least 44 troops.

He said authorities have spoken with local officials in various cities and also set up help centres for Kashmiris living outside the state.

At least 40 paramilitary men were killed in the suicide vehicle bombing on a Kashmir road on Thursday.

As tensions remained high, the senior Indian military commander in Kashmir told mothers to ensure their sons surrendered to an ongoing security crackdown or they would be killed.

At the same time, Pakistan has a vital role to play in nudging the Afghan Taliban towards peace in Afghanistan in talks with USA officials that have raised significant hopes for an end to America's longest war.

The threat of Indian military action has not provoked widespread concern amongst the general public in Pakistan.

While it is not uncommon for thousands of men to make a beeline to recruitment camps of the armed forces in Jammu and Kashmir, where unemployment is a problem, the turnout against 111 vacancies is an encouragement for youth to earn a livelihood of respect and serve the nation, officials said.
