Brand safety for advertisers on YouTube will never be 100%

In a statement to the outlet Friday, YouTube said that its existing policies prohibiting the monetization of "harmful and dangerous" content covered anti-vaccination videos.

Anti-vaccination proponents who falsely suggest that vaccines are somehow unsafe for kids remain rife on YouTube and other platforms.

Additionally, DeFranco stated that YouTube is prioritizing disabling comments over demonetizing videos.

The move comes just one month after the USA wireless carrier announced it would resume buying advertising on YouTube, after a almost two-year boycott of the platform.

This purge of comments and channel terminations follows after a US man, called Matt Watson, uploaded a video titled YouTube Is Facilitating the Sexual Exploitation of Children, and it's Being Monetised (2019) which caused a huge backlash from YouTuber Keem Star who shared his thoughts on his channel DramaAlert.

YouTube said it had taken "immediate action" by deleting offending accounts and reporting the illegal activity to authorities. His video has been watched more than 2.5 million times.

YouTube will no longer allow anti-vaccination videos to run ads, reports BuzzFeed News. DeFranco even praised the team of YouTube in his video and said that YouTube has always been working to remove unsolicited videos from its platform.

When Free Hess found the video on YouTube last week, she posted it on her blog - warning other parents to take control over what their kids may be watching.

The "mirror" said Youtube announced that any content - including comments -that endangers minors, is disgusting.

YouTube has faced brand safety controversies before.

According to The Independent, the developers of Fortnite, Disney and other major companies are horrified over the way videos of children are being used.

The issue hits two ongoing pain points for YouTube: Its role in amplifying conspiracy-mongers and concerns among marketers about the "brand safety" of the platform. "We also need to fight to have the developers of social media platforms held responsible when they do not assure that age restriction are followed and when they do not remove inappropriate and/or risky material when reported".

"There's more to be done, and we continue to work to improve and catch abuse more quickly", it said.

Hasbro said it was "pausing all advertising on YouTube, and has reached out to Google/YouTube to understand what actions they are taking to address this issue and prevent such content from appearing on their platform in the future".

"They're very bad. Absolutely terrible", Hess said about some of the content on the YouTube Kids app.
