Police issue warning after reports of 'Momo' Challenge resurface

The disfigured character players appears to be inspired by a sculpture made in Japan, which has even featured on display in a Tokyo art gallery.

"The way you want to have it is talking about how there are people out there in the world who might try to convince you to do bad things might try to convince you to do things that you don't want to do", Dr. Wald said.

The NSPCC also led an online safety workshop at a primary school in Manchester.

Assistant head teach, Lisa Elderfield, said: "We've just had an e-safety week which is quite helpful for us. So that makes it plausible to parents and school administrators".

"The challenges issued in this game present a serious risk to the safety, welfare and well being of young people in our school and in the United Kingdom".

Reports of the game first surfaced in the summer of 2018, but some parents say this is the first they are hearing about it.

Schools have published warnings on social media telling parents about the sinister game and urging them to monitor their children's internet activity.

"Don't focus only on Momo, but make sure you know what your child has online access to".

A spokesperson for the NSPCC in Northern Ireland said: "The constantly evolving digital world means a steady influx of new apps and games and can be hard for parents to keep track of. If there is anything else you think we could be doing to promote safety, please don't hesitate to mention your ideas to a member of staff and we will seriously consider them in our constant efforts to protect our precious children".

Education safeguarding advisor for Kent County Council, Rebecca Avery, posted advice on The Education People - a trading company for the council - about the challenge.

Scrolling through many online news feed this week, you might come across a creepy meme - a bug-eyed female with dark hair and, seemingly, a bird's body.

It is believed she had been sent online messages threatening that if she didn't hurt herself, her family would be killed. People are claiming what Momo is and what Momo does, but not that many people have actually interacted with the account.

With reports like that, parents are concerned.

"She knew how to show me (the video) straight away".

Momo was reported to have infiltrated the popular video-sharing website YouTube, appearing in programmes such as children's cartoon Peppa Pig and clips of the video game Fortnite.

The Momo Challenge has been terrifying parents.

With that said, there's no evidence that Aisawa is in any way associated with the challenge, yet the image of her work has become a symbol of the deadly game that's spreading across the internet. Normally she would watch it through her phone or Xbox. She's turning 8 in less than a month and is a prime target age for things like this-I've seen how much kids are on YouTube; they are master navigators of the platform, but not as attuned to its pitfalls.
