World powers making efforts for Imran-Modi meeting

The telephonic conversation between the two NSAs assumes significance amid increased tension between India and Pakistan following the Pulwama attack.

One such attack in Indian-controlled Kashmir on February 14, claimed by the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) Pakistan-based group, killed 40 Indian paramilitary police and led to clashes between the nuclear-armed rivals as India retaliated.

India had blamed Pakistan for the Pulwama attack that was carried out by a Kashmiri youth and was claimed by Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM), a group that has been proscribed in Pakistan since 2002. Referring to Pakistan's actions after the Mumbai 2008 attack, the official said most of the apprehensions either took place only on "paper" or those taken into custody were kept at "VIP guesthouses" and in "luxurious accommodations". India is taking all steps necessary for his extradition, he asserted. India on March 4 shot down a Pakistani military drone, media reports said.

Warning that "all options were on the table" in case there was another terrorist attack, a source said: "If there is a naya Pakistan with a naya soch, we expect to see action on the ground".

Asking the gathering if the country wanted to teach Pakistan a lesson and put an end to terror activities, Modi asked, "Would your blessings be there if a war takes place in future". He said foreign ministers of China, Russia, Turkey, UAE and Jordan also played a significant role in reducing tension between the two countries.

Prime Minister Khan has repeatedly said that Pakistan desired peace and stability in the region as it was essential for the government's efforts to pull the people out of poverty and attract investment. It is, however, unclear whether this "preventative detention", as Pakistan described it, will lead to criminal prosecutions and justice being served, he said.

On Monday, Pakistan announced a new crackdown against terrorists and by Thursday, 182 religious schools run by banned groups had been seized, and more than 120 people detained. The Director General (DG) of Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Major General Asif Ghafoor in his tweet said that one of the aircrafts fell inside Pakistan-occupied Kashmit while the other fell inside Indian territory.

Khan also spoke about the security of the minorities in Pakistan and said that his country stood with them unlike India where "the minorities were being targeted".
