New Zealand terrorist supports Trump ‘as a symbol of renewed white identity’

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern awed American gun control advocates Friday night when she announced that her administration would promptly pursue changes to her country's gun laws following the shooting deaths of 49 people at two mosques in Christchurch-in stark contrast to the response of the US government to similar attacks.

The attack sent shockwaves through New Zealand, prompting Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern to promise to change gun laws.

Ardern explained the perpetrator was in possession of five firearms, including two semi-automatic weapons and two shotguns.

A self-proclaimed racist loaded with weapons killed 49 people and wounded dozens other in two mosques in Christchurch.

Greenhill described "acts of heroism" and "selflessness" by the people attacked on Friday afternoon, including one man who was killed trying to disarm a gunman at the second mosque.

Later emphasizing that "now is the time for change", Ardern said New Zealand previously attempted to reform its firearm laws in 2005, 2012, and 2017.

There are now four individuals who have been apprehended, but three are connected to this attack who are now in custody, one of which has publicly stated that they were Australian-born.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also condemned the fatal shootings, saying the attack on people during prayers is "absolutely appalling".

Gun control expert Philip Alpers suggested that Ardern's quick response to the attack may indicate that New Zealand will address the availability of military-style semi-automatic rifles as promptly as Australia did after a mass shooting in 1996.

Brenton Harrison Tarrant appeared in court Saturday morning amid strict security and showed no emotion when the judge read him one murder charge.

Tarrant's occupation was not given on the charging document, and his address was provided as a place in Dunedin, more than 300 km south of Christchurch in New Zealand's South Island. A fourth person detained in the aftermath of the attack was later determined to be an armed bystander who wanted to help police.

When speaking to reporters later, Aziz said he wasn't the one that deserves credit for his quick thinking.

At first, Mr Taylor and his colleagues had no idea what was happening, initially believing the alarms, sirens and general panic sweeping through the New Zealand city were signs of another quake, similar to the 6.2-level seismic disaster that destroyed massive swathes of the city in 2011. Two lightly armed community police officers brought the atrocity to an end after a terrifying 36 minutes, she said, apparently running the gunman's vehicle to the side of the road.

"There is a dimming of enlightenment in many parts of the world", Parker said.

'It's been 36 hours, I haven't heard anything about them, ' he said.

She was yet to meet the officers, but had asked after them while meeting with police bosses in Christchurch today and requested that they pass on the "thanks of all New Zealanders".
