MN lawmakers respond to the Mueller report summary

The four-page memo written by Attorney General William Barr states clearly, "The Special Counsel's investigation did not find that the Trump campaign or anyone associated with it conspired or coordinated with Russian Federation in its efforts to influence the 2016 USA presidential election". In doing so, he invited Democrats to accuse him of going above and beyond for the man who appointed him - and who had, for months and months before then, very publicly resented the fact that his previous attorney general, Jeff Sessions, had recused himself from the investigation.

The letter set off demands from Democrats that the entire report be released, something that Barr said can't happen because some of the evidence used is classified.

Graham is the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which is investigating whether the Federal Bureau of Investigation under Comey misled a secret court in order to obtain a surveillance warrant on a Trump-campaign associate, Carter Page.

Roughly three weeks ago the special counsel's team told Attorney General Bill Barr and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein that Robert Mueller would not be reaching a conclusion on obstruction of justice, according to a source familiar with the meeting.

That decision has generated considerable pushback from those who suggest Trump named Barr the attorney general because Barr had written a memo criticizing the obstruction of justice portion of Mueller's probe. The FBI Director is nominated by the President and reports to the Attorney General and, ultimately, the President.

One point of unity here in Washington is that politicians from both sides of the aisle say they want Barr to release the full report so the American people can see for themselves. The president said the investigation of his campaign was started illegally and called for an investigation of those involved, which would more than likely include Comey.

Second, if Trump had actually wanted to obstruct Mueller's investigation, he could have fired Mueller and ended the investigation. Or will he be thankful that the harassment has ceased and he can finally put his mind to other more pressing matters? It's why they urged him to recuse himself from the Russian Federation investigation. The anchor also asked exactly what Barr meant in his letter when he referred to "multiple offers from Russian-affiliated individuals to assist the Trump campaign".

Mueller's long-awaited final report was delivered to the Justice Department on Friday after a almost two-year investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and possible links between Russia and the Trump campaign.

Mueller "knew that he was not allowed, under Department of Justice policies, to indict the president", Alksne said.

Mueller's report, turned over to Friday to Attorney General William Barr, did not find evidence that Trump's campaign "conspired or coordinated" with Russian Federation to influence the 2016 presidential election.

First, there is the very credible claim that Trump was under surveillance by the Obama government and intelligence agencies while he was the Republican nominee for president. The special counsel stated that "while this report does not conclude that the President committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him", Barr wrote.
