Huawei presents flagship smartphone in Paris during Chinese leader's visit

Huawei P30 Pro will reportedly feature four Leica-branded cameras at the back, a combination of 40MP "SuperSpectrum Sensor" primary camera, an ultra wide-angle sensor, a 10X zoom periscope lens, and a ToF sensor. Alongside a basic Black, there is also Pearl White, Breathing Crystal (light blue), Amber Sunrise (orange) and Aurora (blue-green, based on the Northern Lights).

As for the launch, along with the Huawei P30 and Huawei P30 Pro, the company is also expected to unveil two new smartwatches, a wireless charging pad and a smart speaker at the launch event. The phones also have AI HDR+ to optimise overexposed and backlit selfies.

But it is the new eight-megapixel SuperZoom camera, which like a periscope uses a prism to reflect light down the inside of the width of the phone to make room for the required series of lenses for a 5x optical zoom, that is the most interesting. The 6GB RAM and 128GB storage variant of the P30 Pro could cost Euro 999 or approximately Rs 78,000 while the 8GB RAM and 256GB model of the smartphone could be priced at Euro 1,099 or approximately Rs 86,000.

Huawei P30 will feature the same camera setup as the P30 Pro except for the ToF sensor. The P30 has three cameras - an 8MP f/2.4 3X telephoto lens, a 16MP f/2.2 ultra wide angle lens, and a 40MP f/1.8 wide angle lens.

The Samsung S10 Plus and iPhone Xs Max, in comparison, offers 2 times optical zoom, 10 times digital zoom and no hybrid zoom.

This sensor also packs OIS, so you have dual-OIS aboard the Huawei P30 Pro, which is certainly going to be handy for handheld night shots.

Huawei P30 Pro vs P30

The device also has a 4,400 mAh battery, in-built fingerprint scanner, a USB-C charging port with 40W supercharging.

Huawei, which also makes telecoms network equipment, has been under much worldwide scrutiny following USA allegations that the Chinese giant's products could be used by Beijing for spying. A whole lot, would be the answer, as according to DxOMark, the P30 Pro is the new best camera smartphone on the planet.

Particularly intriguing, though, is the zoom capabilities afforded by the P30 Pro.

As of now, Huawei has yet to release specific pricing or availability details. With the P30 Pro, early indications are that it's looking like it'll be another fantastic performer at a competitive price and with attractive looks.

Huawei consumer business group CEO Richard Yu posted a photo of the moon on his Weibo account weeks before Tuesday's launch, with the blurred watermark hinting at the P30 series.

Add the super-wide-angle camera (which as with other devices with a similar camera setup, did not have an impact on Huawei's DxOMark score) into the mix, and the P30 Pro is easily the most versatile mobile imaging tool to date, allowing you to cover a wider range of photographic situations than any other smartphone. It comes with IP68 rating which means that is water and dust proof.
