Chicago PD Investigating Itself Over Jussie Smollett Leaks

"When there are allegations of information being leaked, an internal investigation has been opened and we are also looking at our vulnerabilities", a spokesperson for the Chicago PD said.

The CPD is now investigating how information about the case involving Smollett made its way to various media outlets without going through the proper channels.

Smollett has maintained that he is a victim and has denied all the allegations that he staged the incident.

In January, Smollett told police that he was attacked by two masked men as he was walking home from a sandwich shop in the early morning on Jan. 29.

"I would like to point out that a lot of the information out there was inaccurate and there were numerous agencies involved in this investigation".

This news comes on the heels of another investigation at Northwestern Memorial Hospital where dozens of workers may have been terminated for "improperly reviewing the medical records" of the Empire actor, just so they could sneak a peak at his medical chart.

According to one nurse who was sacked following the incident, she never accessed Smollett's records, but merely scrolled past them as she was searching for another patient. She says she never accessed the actor's chart but simply scrolled past it when looking for another patient's name. She's appealing her dismissal and is speaking out because she fears others may have been overzealously fired over the same misunderstanding.

Smollett is charged with disorderly conduct, a class 4 felony after police said he filed a false report. He initially claimed to have been assaulted by two men who approached him yelling racial slurs. He was later released on $100,000 bond.

The Superintendent has batted away Smollett's claim that a $3,500 check for the brothers he allegedly paid to attack him was for personal training and said there was surveillance footage, physical evidence and testimony that proves it was a hoax that is yet to be presented. Queen Latifah defended Smollett after he was arrested for allegedly staging his own attack.

ET has learned that when Empire returns next Wednesday, March 13, Jussie Smollett will be appearing in the spring premiere episode.
