President Donald Trump sacks Secret Service boss Randolph Alles

President Donald Trump has ordered the firing of the U.S. Secret Service director, CNN reported Monday, one day after the resignation of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, to whom Secret Service reports.

US Secret Service director Randolph "Tex" Alles is the latest administration official to get the boot as the president prepares to assemble a team that takes an even harder line on immigration.

The officials also intimated that the decision to fire Alles, who reported directly to the head of the Department of Homeland Security, was part of the ongoing change of personnel at that department, and was not related to the alleged intrusion that occurred last weekend at Trump's resort Mar-a-Lago.

Alles has been asked to leave on Monday, a number of USA mainstream media outlets reported citing anonymous administration officials.

Just five days ago, Trump said he "could not be happier with Secret Service" following the Mar-a-Lago incident.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said James Murray, a career Secret Service agent, will take over the Secret Service in May.

Administration sources tell Fox News that the withdrawal of Vitiello's nomination was the first step in Trump's plan to control the border crisis.

A senior administration official said Trump asked for Nielsen's resignation when the two met at the White House on Sunday. "Very happy with them". Alles remains in his position as of now but has been asked to leave.

CNN also reported that there could be additional high-level removals at DHS in what one unnamed source described as a "purge". Kevin McAleenan, the current US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) commissioner, was named as her acting replacement.

Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Francis Cissna and Office of the General Counsel's John Mitnick are two other officials expected soon to leave the department.
