Trump suggests ‘REBRAND’ to ‘fix’ troubled Boeing 737 Max jet

The Max aircrafts have been grounded since mid-March. Both flights involved American planemaker Boeing's new 737 Max model; the crashes appear to involve the model's anti-stalling software.

Southwest Airlines Co, the world's largest MAX operator, and American Airlines Group Inc with 34 and 24 MAX jetliners respectively, have removed the aircraft from their flying schedules into August.

"Once the Max is recertified, we anticipate bringing our Max aircraft back on line as spares to supplement our operation as needed during the summer", continued the carrier. The first crash occurred through the Lion Air Flight 610 on October 29, and the second happened via an Ethiopian Airlines Flight on March 10. In the previous weeks, Boeing pilots have flown 96 test flights, totalling 160 hours with the new software and will operate more flights in the coming weeks to prove that the software fix works.

The Federal Aviation Administration has been meeting major airlines and convened a joint review with aviation regulators from other countries, while federal prosecutors, the U.S. Department of Transportation inspector general's office and a blue-ribbon panel are reviewing the plane's certification.

Southwest now has 34 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft in their fleet, and has 246 more aircraft on order with Boeing. Airline officials say by extending cancellations through the summer they can plan more reliably for the peak travel season.

As a result of the worldwide grounding of the 737 MAX, airlines that operate the aircraft have suffered financial losses and operational issues.

Chief Executive Dennis Muilenburg has apologized on behalf of Boeing for lives lost in two recent accidents and promised that it would address the risk that flight software meant to prevent the plane stalling could be activated by wrong data. 2,800 of those canceled flights have been caused from the 737 MAX being out of service.
